2nd son of A. J. Rickett of Wilby, Northamptonshire, by Helen Dorothy, daughter of Parr. Educated for medical profession at Guy's Hospital, Southwark.

M.R.C.S.Eng., L.R.C.P. (London, 1927), late House Surgeon at Guy's. In practice (1931) at Havant, Hants., as partner in the firm of Glanville Soames and Rickett. During the Second World War was Major R.A.M.C. (surgeon). Mentioned in Despatches. In 1944 he was attached to Force 133 and was sent to the Island of Vis in the Adriatic, the only one of those islands not occupied by the Germans. He set up a hospital there (by means of barter and other unconventional methods) and treated Commandos and Yugoslav partisans. (There is an account of these adventures called the Island of Terrible Friends by Bill Strutton, pub. 1961 and re-issued by Magnum in paperback 1979).

After the war he returned to General Practice. Retired 1960.

James married Dorothy Beatrice Gordon Young on 24 Jan 1931 in St Michaels, Chester Square, Westminster, London. Dorothy (daughter of Maj. Gen. Charles Frederick Gordon Young and Agnes Hilda Gibbs) was born on 27 Nov 1903 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India; died on 13 Nov 1991 in Chichester, Sussex. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
