1557 | Lady Eliza Maria Gordon-Cumming (1795- 21 April 1842) was a Scottish aristocrat, horticulturalist, palaeontologist and scientific illustrator. Lady Cumming collected and studied Devonian fish fossils from the Old Red Sandstone of Morayshire, Scotland. She amassed a large and well-known collection which she illustrated, along with her daughter Lady Anne Seymour. Lady Cumming worked with other palaeontologists and geologists of the time including Louis Agassiz, William Buckland and Roderick Murchison. 1579 | Lieutenant-Colonel Sir William Alexander Gordon Gordon-Cumming, 4th Baronet (20 July 1848 – 20 May 1930) was a Scottish landowner, soldier, adventurer and socialite. A notorious womaniser, he is best known for being the central figure in the royal baccarat scandal of 1891. After inheriting a baronetcy he joined the Army and saw service in South Africa, Egypt and the Sudan; he served with distinction and rose to the rank of lieutenant-colonel. 1594 | Lucius Perronet Thompson-McCausland (12 December 1904 – 16 February 1984) was a British economist who took part in the Bretton Woods conference and was a Treasury advisor during the sterling crisis in the 1960s. Thompson was the son of Sir John Thompson and his wife Ada Tyrrell. His father was Chief Commissioner of Delhi between 1928 and 1932. He was educated at Repton School and was a scholar at King's College, Cambridge. He joined Herbert Wagg & Co in 1928 and the Financial News, and Moody's Economist service in 1929. He left the Financial News in 1934 and in 1939 left Moody's and joined the Bank of England as a temporary clerk and was assistant adviser from 1941 to 1949. He assumed the surname Thompson-McCausland by Royal Licence on 16 April 1942, in accordance with family settlement. 1595 | Lucy Lewin was one of the five daughters of Frederick Thomas Lewin of Castlegrove, Co. Galway, and Cloghans, Co. Mayo. Lucy’s grandfather Thomas Lewin served with the 30th Regiment during the Napoleonic Wars and her father was a prominent magistrate in Counties Galway and Mayo. Her brother Brigadier General Arthur Lewin, DSO, commanded the 40th Infantry Brigade during the catastrophe of Gallipoli and later emigrated to Kenya. Another brother, Captain Frederick Lewin of the Connaught Rangers, died of wounds received in 1915.
