Cirencester, was a publisher, inc. with Collins, and per Debrett's etc was at various times resident at West End House, 1, Step Terrace, Winchester, 15, St Michael's Rd, Winchester, 20, Kensington Road, South Kensington, and Foxbury Meadow, Godalming, Surrey.

    Robert married Mary Claudia Elizabeth Hanbury-Tracy on 25 Apr 1953. Mary (daughter of Claud Edward Frederick Hanbury-Tracy and Veronica May Cunard) was born on 19 May 1933; died on 13 Sep 2019 in York; was buried on 8 Oct 2019 in St Lawrence Church, Winchester. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Charles Cross 3rd s. of Robert Cross (1755-1840), of Beckingham, Notts., and (m. 1794), Mary (1773-1845), dau. of - Bright.

    Robert Cross s. of Robert Cross (1723-1792), of Gringley on the Hill, Notts.; a branch of this family evidently continued to reside here, as Walford's County Families (1864) gives: 'DODGSON, Richard Barton, Esq., of Beardwood, Lancashire. Son of the late - Dodgson, Esq.; b. 18-; m. 1857 Jane, 2nd dau. of James Cross, Esq., of Gringley-on-the-Hill, Notts. Is a magistrate for co. Lancaster. - Beardwood, near Blackburn, Lancashire.' Further, the Gentleman's Magazine in 1862 prints the following: 'Nov. 28 Aged 65, James Cross, esq., of Gringley, Nottinghamshire.' F. White's 1853 'History, Directory and Gazetteer of the County, and of the Town of Nottingham', under Gringley, notes that 'An unknown benefactor left to eight poor widows of this parish £1. yearly, out of an orchard which belongs to Mr. Cross.' Additionally, a posting on the Curious Fox site, evidently referring to this James Cross: 'I am the Great Granddaughter of William Littlewood Cross from Australia and am trying to find out about my family in Gringley on the Hill. James Cross (GG grandfather) born 1796 Gringley on the Hill married Ann Littlewood (born1807). Their eldest son, William Littlewood Cross (my Great Grandfather) was born in 1829 and arrived in Australia 1861.' Robert Cross (1723-1792) had married 1750, Sarah, dau. of - Fretwell.

    Robert's father, John Cross (1691-), who m. 1717, Hannah, dau. of - Ward, and grandfather, Edmund Cross (c. 1660- c. 1720), who m. Anne, dau. of - Burton, were both of Gringley. Edmund's father appears to have been another Edmund (1612-1682).

    The Venerable Charles Estcourt Boucher (1856–1940) was an eminent Anglican priest in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

    Boucher was born on 8 June 1856 at Cheddleton and educated at Uppingham and Trinity Hall, Cambridge.

    He was ordained in 1879 and began his career as Curate at Northam, Devon after which he was Rector of Frolesworth, Lutterworth and Master of Chief Baron Smith's Almshouses from 1886 to 1923. An Honorary Canon of Peterborough from 1912 until 1937, he became the first Archdeacon of Loughborough in 1921.
