    Maiden Speech in the House of Lords, June 1974, on the National Health Service, Member of Finance Committee of Regional Health Authority, N. Thames since 1974. Member Royal Yacht Squadron 1977.     Only daughter of Walter Parkyns Tyler of Gordonbush, Brora, Sutherland, by Jessie Woodriff Berkeley Quill only child of Col. Berkeley Quill of Tralee, Co. Kerry. Born at Hyde Park Mansions, London 23 July 1921 and baptised at St. Thomas's, Navestock, Essex 28 August 1921. Educated at Downham, Essex 1933-37, Paris 1937-38. Married 16 July 1947 at St. Margaret's, Westminster.

    Presented at Court 1939 (probably the last one with feathers etc.). At outbreak of Second World War served in the Land Army; 1941-1945 WAAF. Commissioned 1943 as a photographic interpreter, serving at C.I.U. Medmennam and Coulommiers (France) March-September 1945.

    Hon. Organiser Poppy Day Appeal in Stanstead Abbotts, St. Margarets and Great Amwell from 1965-79. President Hertford and E.Herts. Branch N.S.P.C.C. 1969-79, in aid of which held annual Spring Plant Sales of own raised plants and opened garden in Summer. Also opened garden for Red Cross. Resigned from both in 1979 because of move to Somerset in 1980.

    “Mr. Walter Parkyns Tyser died from pneumonia at Gordonbush, Brora, Suntherland, on May 5, at the age of 77. He was the eldest of the four sons of George Waler Tyser of Oakfield, Mortimer, Berkshire. His mother was the eldest daughter of Sir Thomas George Augustus Parkyns, fifth baronet. Tyser was educated at Winchester and at Trinity College, Cambridge. In the 1914-18 war he did good work at the Ministry of Shipping, and up to the outbreak of the present war he went regularly to the City and carried on his business as chairman of the Port line and a director of Cunard White Star Line. He was a good fisherman and shot, a fine horseman, and a knowledgeable farmer if his estates in Essex and Scotland. In 1894 he married Gertrude Elinor, daughter of Charles Langton, of Bark Hill, Liverpool. She died in 1918. In 1920 he married, secondly, Jessie Woodriff, daughter of Colonel B.C. Quill, C.B., of Ballycarty, Tralee, Co. Kerry. She survives him will three sons and one daughter.”
