    Baptised 19 November 1898 at St. Michael's, Paddington. Educated at Wellington College 1912-17, Royal Military Academy, Woolwich 1917-18, and Cambridge (Pembroke College) 1923-4.

    At Wellington was in Rackets and Shooting VIIs. 2nd Lt. Royal Engineers Jan. 1918. Served BAOR (1918-19 and 1927-29), India (1920-23, and 1938-42). Ceylon (1942-44), Egypt (1945-47). Retired July 1947.

    In woodland ownership and forestry till 1978. Chairman Southern Division of Royal Forestry Society (1964-69). On Executive Committee of Squash Rackets Association (1953-68). Conservation interests include Fauna Preservation Society, Member since 1927 and on Council 6 years (between 1958 and 1965); World Wildlife Fund (local Group founder member).

    Baptised at St. Michael's, Paddington. Educated at Charterhouse School, Surrey, 1883-6. Buried 31 December 1926 at Clifton Hampden. Memorial Inscription in churchyard. Will proved 29 January 1927.

    2nd Lieut. 60th Rifles (Militia) c. 1888. In Australia c. 1889-91. Student at the Agricultural College, Cirencester, c. 1892-96, following on which he and his brothers Stanley and Antony were for a few years in the partnership of a brewery at Ashford, Kent. He and his wife resided at Ablington Manor c. 1901-3. He was in delicate health a great part of his married life. In his last years they lived at Slough. He inherited, but gave to the Bishop of Bath & Wells the advowson of Hutton (see George Louis Monck Gibbs).

    Portrait by T. W. Webber, and crayon by A. G. Witherby ("Spy" of "Vanity Fair") both last in possession of his widow.

    1st daughter of Thomas Wingfield Webber of Kellavil, Queen's County, JP and DL (see Burke's 'Landed Gentry of Ireland'), by Mathilda Emily, 4th daughter of Thomas Barstow of Garrow Hill, county of York.

    Lived in 1932 at 87 Westbourne Terrace, Paddington. Portrait, age 18, by Richard Jack, R.A., last in possession of her daughter Beatrice. Like many in her family she was an artist and a very good one; she bought Smallwood in 1940 and gave a home there to her sister Alice, Lady Coote, till she died in 1975.

    Latterly she spent 2 years at the Tiled House Nursing Home nearby and died 11 Aug. 1977 (aged 102). During her last 3 years she knitted many squares for Oxfam blankets, although partially blind.

    Baptised there 24 May 1838. Educated at Marlborough College 1947-53. Died at his residence Deacon's Hill, Elstree, Herts 26 November and was buried 1 December 1881 at Clifton Hampden. Memorial Inscription in churchyard there and in Aldenham Church and Memorial Screen in Elstree Chapel. Will proved 1882.

    He inherited Belmont, Wraxall, on his father's death in 1865 (subject to his mother's life interest) and sold it in 1870 to his uncle William Gibbs of the adjoining Tyntesfield. Entered Antony Gibbs & Sons 1855 (was in London 1855-59; in William Gibbs & Co., Peru & Chile, 1859-62; in London, as a manager of A. Gibbs & Sons 1863, as a partner 1865-81). Visited New York 1863, Spain and Portugal 1864, Mexico 1869 all on business of the firm. A director of the London Assurance Co. 1865 (deputy Governor 1878, sub-Governor Dec. 1878-81).

    A benefactor to Elstree church. Patron of the living of Hutton, Somerset (see VI, n33). Resided at 14 Devonshire Terrace, Paddington, 1864-67; Nutwood, Bickley, Kent, 1867-70; Deacon's Hill, Elstree, Herts., 1870-81; 46 Grosvenor Street, Westminster, 1881.     He was in the employ of Antony Gibbs & Sons 1818-24 (in London 1818-21, Cadiz 1818-2, Gibraltar 1822-3, again in London 1823-4). He was ordained Deacon in 1828, Priest by the Bishop of Chester 8 Aug. 1829. Curate of Howarden, co. Flint, 1828-30, Perpectual Curate of Clifton Hampden, co. Oxon 1830-64 in the new parsonage given by his cousin Anne Noyes (patron of the living) which, from 1905, was again the parsonage, and from c. 1846 in the new parsonage built by his sister-in-law Caroline Gibbs (now the Manor House), Devisee of Belmont, Wraxall, under the will of his cousin and brother-in-law George who died 1863.     Portraits: miniature of him by Sir William Ross was in possession of Everilda Gibbs in 1932; a portrait of him with his wife and sister Joanna was known to be in possession of Evelyn Alice Heberden until her death in 1955, but whereabouts unknown in 1980; watercolour in middle age in possession of Alexandra White (2021 - previously George Medley in 1980).

    Her father, rector of Crickhowell, co. Brecon, was descended from the Vaughans of Tretower, whose full pedigree (including Sir Roger Vaughan, knighted and mortally wounded at Agincourt) is in Theophilus Jones's 'History of Brecon (1805-9, new edition 1909). Her mother's father John Monck of Bath (Burke's 'Landed Gentry' under 'Monck of Coley Park') was a descendant of William Monck (and his wife Dorothy, sister of 1st Earl of Darnley) whose ancestry is in Burke's Peerage under 'Monck' (Viscount). A miniature of her by Sir William Ross was in possession of Everilda Gibbs in 1932. Portrait Heberden, great-grand-daughter of Joseph and Emily Gibbs. This portrait was formerly in possession of Evelyn Alice Heberden.
