    Jacob Lindley was graduated from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton) in 1800 with a B.A. and M.A. He became a Presbyterian minister at Waterford, OH, and served at Cincinnati, Walnut Hills, Cumberland, and Athens. He was one of the organizers of Ohio University where he served as Trustee from 1805 - 1838, President from 1808 - 1822, Professor of Moral Philosophy from 1822 - 1824, and professor of mathematics from 1824- 1826.

During 2015 historical sources for all of the descendants of Demas Lindley were attached to their person pages. All ancestors who were presumed deceased by that year (born before 1915) were added. The 1920, 1930 and 1940 census records and obituaries that are attached may contain the names of children who were presumed still living when the sources were attached and so were not added. They will need to be added as time goes by. Of course new sources will continue to be added as more indexing is done, but all available sources were added and dates standardized, and relationships corrected as much as possible at that time.     Notes:

    In 1760 Demas Lindsley left Mendham, Morris Co., NJ and led a band of pioneers to Washington County, PA, where they settled in 1763 and built the Lindsley Fort near Upper Ten Mile, now called Prosperity. Demas was a church elder, miller, county commissioner, and land owner.
    Demas Lindley, built a very strong fort eight miles south of Washington,later Prosperity, Penn. about 1770. He moved there with his family from Mendham, N.J. in 1773. (In 1928, there was a momument erected marking the location of this fort.) He was buried in the graveyard at the Upper Then Mile Presbyterian Church. His tombstone states in the "60th. year of his Eldership in the Church."

    John Lindsley was one of the first judges of Hunterdon County, serving from March 25, 1740, until his death. He was also a Justice of the Peace. He married Sarah Plum, daughter of John and Hannah (Crane) Plum. Hannah was the daughter of Deacon Azariah Crane and granddaughter of GovernorRobert Treat. John Plum was one of the emigrants from Branford to Newark along with Francis Lindsley.

    John Lindsley was born in 1668 in Newark, NJ, son of Francis and Susannah Cullpepper Lindsley, and died at Morristown, NJ, October 27, 1749. He wasa carpenter and Wheelwright. In 1699 he was put in peaceable possession of his father's land and meadow by delivering to him, "...a coyned piece of silver money called a nine penny bitt in the name of the premises." John and his brother, Ebenezer, were appointed fence viewers in 1697; on April 15, 1700, John was appointed constable; and in August 10, 1715, overseer of the poor. His first wife's name is not known, but all of his children were by her. His second wife, Elizabeth Freeman Ford (widow ofJohn Ford), was born in Oxford, England, and died in Morristown April 21, 1772, aged ninety-one years. She came to Philadelphia when there was only one house there and moved to New Jersey when she was but 11/2 years old. Her father was drowned in 1681 as he left the vessel in which the family had arrived. Her first husband, John Ford, was born in 1659 at Duxbury, MA, and died in 1724 in Virginia while there on business. John and Elizabeth were married on December 31, 1701, and had three children.
