- 2nd daughter of Sir Leslie Probyn, KCMG, colonial Governor, for whom see 'Probyn of Huntly Manor' in Burke's 'Landed Gentry', by Emily (OBE), daughter of George Davies, Contractor, of Bristol. Baptised 7 April 1889 at Acton.
Her father (born 1862) was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) 1884: Governor of Sierra Leone, 1904-10; Governor of Barbados, 1910-18; living at Folkestone, 1929. One of his sisters, Blanche Probyn, was the 2nd wife (m. 1904) of Antony Page Crawley-Boevey, 1st cousin of Antony Gibbs of Tyntesfield born 1842.
