- Baptised 19 November 1898 at St. Michael's, Paddington. Educated at Wellington College 1912-17, Royal Military Academy, Woolwich 1917-18, and Cambridge (Pembroke College) 1923-4.
At Wellington was in Rackets and Shooting VIIs. 2nd Lt. Royal Engineers Jan. 1918. Served BAOR (1918-19 and 1927-29), India (1920-23, and 1938-42). Ceylon (1942-44), Egypt (1945-47). Retired July 1947.
In woodland ownership and forestry till 1978. Chairman Southern Division of Royal Forestry Society (1964-69). On Executive Committee of Squash Rackets Association (1953-68). Conservation interests include Fauna Preservation Society, Member since 1927 and on Council 6 years (between 1958 and 1965); World Wildlife Fund (local Group founder member).
