- 2nd son of Captain Charles Torkington (41st Regiment) of Great Stukeley, Hunts (see Burke's 'Landed Gentry' before 1900), by Forence Elizabeth Caroline, 3rd daughter of Richard George Coke of Tapton Grove, co. Derby, for whom see Coke of Brookhill in 'Landed Gentry'. Baptised at Aldershot parish church. Educated at Cranbrook School, 1891-6 and at Royal Military College, Sandhurst.
2nd Lieut. 2nd Bn. Suffolk Regt., August 1898; Lieut. April 1900; joined Indian Army, 69th Punjabis, August 1900; Captain August 1907; Major September 1915. In the Great War he commanded Training depots at Attock and Agra in India October 1914- September 1919.
Retired February 1921 on disability pension. He and his wife living at Hartley, nr. Cranbrook, Kent, in 1932.
