Farming at Lukers Farm, Brinkworth, Wilts., 1949-52, and since 1952 at Dalmahoy, Kirknewton, Midlothian.
Senior Partner Dalmahoy Farms and Chairman Dalmahoy Country Club 1978. Chairman Caledonian Building Society and later Scottish Director British and West Building Society.
In 1982, he was appointed a deputy lieutenant of West Lothian, and he served as Lord Lieutenant of West Lothian from 1985 to 2002.
Played polo for Scotland 1977 and 1979 in Kenya.
