- Sir Francis was bom in 1863 and educated at Clifton College and Balliol College Oxford During the 1914-1918 war he was honorary legal adviser to theGovernment on army contracts and was knighted for his services in 1919 He was Chancellor of the Dioceses of Exeter and Bradford and Professoi of Law at the Royal Academy of Arts As an etcher he exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and was president of the Art Workers Guild He was Official Referee of the Supreme Court of Judicature until his retirement in 1936 His publications include a novel books on legal subjects art fishing chemistry and a diary of Clifton College
