Headmaster of "Tudor House" Preparatory School nr. Mossvale, N.S.W. from 1931-38. Elected Vice-Chancellor, Melbourne University in 1938 from which post he retired in 1951. Knighted 1948.

    A Trustee of the Australian National Gallery from 1941, and Chairman from 1951. Member of the Australian Broadcasting Commission in 1942.
