Member of Parliament (United Party) 1947-53; Chairman of the United Party for many years. One of the two originators of the Central African Trade Fair (later the Rhodesian Trade Fair).

    Governor of Southern Rhodesia 1959; last Governor General (Acting) of the Federation of Rhodesia & Nyasaland.
