In the Great War served in France and Belgium October 1914 to May 1915; lost his left arm as the result of wound suffered at Ypres on 13 May 1915; Aide-de-Camp May to November 1918 to Major General Gorringe commanding 47th Divn. in France. Despatches 14 January 1915. 1914 Star. British War medal. Allies (Victory) medal.
